Sandend to Findlater – Coastal Path Restoration

Upgrade and repair work to the path between Findlater Castle and Sandend is due to start on site on 17th June 2024. The works are expected to take approximately 12 weeks and be completed by 6th September 2024. During this time, the path will be closed and inaccessible. An alternative route will be signposted on site via the Barnyards of Findlater car park.

The works consist of upgrade and repair of a 2-kilometre length of the coast path. The scheme will see a light touch approach taken to form a 1.2m wide grass path which will follow the existing trodden path.  The formation of the path will involve strimming grass, vegetation/grass scraping with small excavator along a 1.2m wide corridor and gorse clearance, with the installation of steps and raised boardwalks where required.

The contractors will be siting a welfare unit in the car park at Sandend for the duration of the works.

This work is part of the proposed North East Scotland Coastal Trail Project and is part funded by Coastal Community Funding awarded by Aberdeenshire Council’s Banff and Buchan Area Committee.
